About Thangbi Mewang Festival

The four-day festival is a display of the rich tradition and celebrates the cultural heritage of the ancient angbi Lhakhang. e main highlight of the festival is the Mewang ceremony. Mewang ceremony (Fire Blessing) is performed in an open ground. e Gomchens performs puri cation rituals, while all the people and guests jump over the ames to get themselves puri ed from their sins and evil deeds. It is believed that if one is able to jump over the ame three times, he or she is protected from ill luck and misfortunes are removed for that entire year. at
